The Norman Queens of England in the Middle Ages started with the Norman Invasion. From 1066 -1154 - The Normans ruled the English after their victory at the Battle of Hastings when William, Duke of Normandy was crowned King of England (William I) better known as William the Conqueror. The Norman dynasty included the following Queens and Princesses of England during the Middle Ages:

  • Matilda of Flanders was the Queen of William the Conqueror
  • Good Queen Maude was the Queen consort of King Henry I (1100-1135)
  • Queen Matilda ruled in her own right ( she was the daughter of King Henry I who was replaced by her cousin King Stephen )
  • Queen Matilda of Boulogne was the Queen consort of King Stephen (1135-1154)

The Plantagenet Queens of England in the Middle Ages
From 1154 - 1377 the Plantagenet Queens of England were Queen consorts to the English Kings. The Plantagenet Queens of England included seven Queens of England in the Middle Ages:

  • Queen Berengaria of Navarre was the Queen consort of King Richard I (1189-1199)
  • Isabelle of Angouleme was the Queen consort of King John (1199-1216)
  • Eleanor of Provence was the Queen consort of King Henry III (1216-1272)
  • Eleanor of Castile was the Queen consort of King Edward I (1272-1307 )
  • Isabella of France aka the She-Wolf of France was the Queen consort of King Edward II (1307-1327)
  • Philippa of Hainault was the Queen consort of King Edward III (1327-1377)

The Royal Houses of Lancaster and York became Queens of England in the Middle Ages
From 1377 - 1485 the Royal Houses of Lancaster and York were ruled by warring Kings with their Queen consorts of England in the Middle Ages. The Lancaster and York Queens of England included seven Queens in the Middle Ages:

  • Mary de Bohun was the Queen consort of King Henry IV (1399-1413)
  • Catherine of Valois was the Queen consort of King Henry V (1413-1422)

  • Elizabeth Woodville was the Queen consort of King Edward IV (1461-1483 )
  • Anne Neville was the Queen consort of King Richard III (1483-1485)
